Mindfulness: How it Relates to Eating and Weight Control

Some research suggests that mindful eating, a slower, more thoughtful way of eating can help with weight problems.  Mindfulness includes:

 

  • Noticing the colors, smells, flavors, and textures of your food

  • Getting rid of  distractions like TV or reading

  • Learning to cope with guilt and anxiety about food

  • Becoming aware of emotional and physical triggers that cause you to want to eat

  • Noticing your physical level of hunger

  • Allowing more enjoyment of food and a better sense of control
